pig

pig-copy

I didn’t read it, but I think this is a prime example of the southern Gothic tradition in American storytelling. I’m only guessing, mind, but I’m pretty sure that this character – pig (note the absence of a capital “P” – this poor soul is lost in lowercase) – makes it to the deep South and is somehow proclaimed “king of the southern table.” Too late, too late, our lowercase tragic hero realizes that this means that when they say that they’re having him over for dinner, what they mean is they’re having him for dinner.

Read the papers, people. This happens every damn day. It’s probably based on a true story.

Chilling.
