The National Cheesecake Day top 5

Did you know that July 30, 2016, was National Cheesecake Day? I did not until a cruel work colleague, who knows I am supposed to be eating sensibly, mentioned it. She is clearly intent on my early expiration.

To mark NCD, which is undoubtedly a real and genuine thing and not a marketing ploy in any way, the charitable folk at the Cheesecake Factory were offering every cheesecake on their menu at 50% off. My wife, who may have a secret life insurance policy in my name, insisted we go.

Youngest Child is currently in a certain amount of inertia – school is done, college looms next year. Like Malia Obama, he is taking some time off to consider his life choices. I like to keep him busy, though, so I told him – “Give me a top 5 list of my cheesecake options. You have 24 hours.” And then I thought no more about it.

He stayed in his room for a full 24 hours. He really gave it some – perhaps a minimum amount – of thought. And then he sent me this:

5. Kahlua Cocoa Coffee Cheesecake – “Layers of Rich Brownie, Kahlua Cheesecake, Creamy Chocolate Mousse and Chocolate Ganache.” Seems to hit the points you love in this kind of dessert, but seems a bit experimental.
4. Peppermint Bark Cheesecake – “White chocolate cheesecake swirled with chunks of chocolate peppermint bark, topped with white chocolate mousse and finished with chopped peppermint.” Again, something seemingly delicious but new. I would call this a bigger leap than the last.
3. 30th Anniversary Chocolate Cake Cheesecake – “Layers of Our Original Cheesecake, Fudge Cake and Chocolate Truffle Cream.” Seems pretty simple: chocolate on chocolate followed by a generous serving of chocolate.
2. Salted Caramel Cheesecake – “Caramel Cheesecake and Creamy Caramel Mousse on a Blonde Brownie all topped with Salted Caramel.” I do believe you’ve seen this before. But hey, ideas can be shared.
1. White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake – “White Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake Swirled with Macadamia Nuts and Caramel on a Blonde Brownie Crust.” I don’t believe we’ve discussed this one. It blends textures and ingredients you enjoy. I’ve high hopes for this selection.
It occurred to me that I could try all 5 and only pay for 2.5 of them. But then it also occurred to me that my medical expenses would probably make this a net loss, and selected only one of the options. Which one? The salted caramel. And it was worth it. Even though I can probably take in no more calories until the middle of next month.
